Coat Types

This is our favorite website for coat types!  Thank you Sunset Labradoodles for putting this out there for us all:  http://www.sh-labradoodles.biz/labradoodles/coattypes.html

MURPHY: WOOLY FLEECE

This is Murphy. She has a Fleece Fur as low shedding as you can get.  At 4 weeks you can start seeing the curl in her ears.  By the time she is 9 months she has a wavy wool coat. In my opinion this soft wool coat is the easiest to care for.

ADDIE: STRAIGHT FLEECE

Addie has a pretty straight fleece coat at 8 weeks old.  By the time she is 6 months old it’s pretty straight with a few waves, if they let her grow it out, the fur would straighten. They need to be trimmed about every 3 months to keep up their good looks.

Another example of the straight fleece.

One of Nani and Obi’s puppies Winter 2017  This is an example of a straighter fleece.

BILLY: WAVY FLEECE

Billy has a little wavy at 9 weeks old, ended up a straight coat with a small wave to it.

EXAMPLES OF DOGS WITH “HAIR” (SHEDDING)

I got the pictures below from Pixabay, a free download website.  You can tell from the way the “Hair” on their heads stand that these are shedding dogs.  The fleece flops & the hair sticks up…even as puppies. This is why even though our dogs are multigenerational Australian Labradoodles, we genetically test them through PawPrintGenetics.  Dogs can throw a generation of incorrect coats and shedding coats which breeders need to be aware of it.
